Shalshelet Festival Songbook
Compositions from the First International
Festival of New Jewish Litrugical Music

This songbook represents a milestone in the life of our vibrant new organization, Shalshelet. This songbook is intended to provide amateurs and professional musicians alike with new melodies that will expand their repertoire of liturgical music. The selections include suggested chord progressions. More elaborate piano arrangements suitable to be performed in concert situations accompany several of the pieces. The arrangements are also featured on the First International Festival CD which offers a true representation of the range of music styles included in the Festival.

We expect the songbook will be of particular interest to hazzanim, who will find liturgical melodies - for both soloist and congregation - that can be introduced during religious services. Music teachers may be interested in these melodies in order to enhance their repertoires for Shabbat, holidays, and life cycle events. Musicians of all backgrounds will be exposed to original and previously unknown melodies that can be arranged successfully for a variety of musical settings.

Complete Hebrew (or Aramaic) texts of the poems are provided, along with translations and transliterations. (110 pages)

We invite you to join with us in this exciting new venture, and to support Shalshelet in your own communities and synagogues. With your help, we can nurture Jewish composers while encouraging congregations all over the world to broaden their liturgical experience with the inspiring new voice that Shalshelet is privileged to publish.
